• Complete diagnostic interview


• Thorough review of medical history including medication history, past and current medical illnesses, and coordination with current and previous treatment providers when needed, including psychiatrists, primary care physicians and other medical specialists. Any communication or consultation with outside providers is only done with full written consent by the patient.


• Diagnostic assessment using standardized testing measures. Dr. Montoya conducts evaluations for diagnosis of emotional/psychiatric disorders and learning/cognitive disorders.


• Careful review, explanation, and discussion of all diagnoses. Recommendations for treatment options and information for further education and understanding of any diagnosis and treatment will be provided.



Comprehensive Treatment


• Dr. Montoya will explain all evidence-based treatment options available for each condition, weighing the risks and benefits for all these treatments and help design a treatment plan together with the patient (and family if indicated). These options may be individual therapy, family therapy, parent education and consultation, and other approaches.


• Case Coordination: If indicated, Dr. Montoya will maintain ongoing close coordination of care with other treatment providers including psychiatrists and primary care physicians.


• Medication: Dr. Montoya does not prescribe medication. When medication is indicated, Dr. Montoya will provide a referral to a psychiatrist with expertise in the area being treated.


• Referrals: Dr. Montoya is happy to assist in any additional referrals that may be of need during the course of treatment.

An Arizona native, Dr. Montoya graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego California with a degree in Psychology.  Following her undergraduate degree, Dr. Montoya then completed her clinical doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University.  As a PhD graduate student, Dr. Montoya worked at the University Counseling Center and Psychology Department Community Clinic, providing individual and family therapy, parenting, behavior modification, social skills groups, and psychological assessment services. Dr. Montoya also completed externships at the local school district as an “Autism Coach” and assisted her advisor, Dr. Lee Rosen, as he worked with specific students/programs to conduct assessments and develop/implement behavioral interventions. Dr. Montoya completed her APA-accredited psychology internship at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI) in Salt Lake City, Utah, and braved the snow for an additional year to complete a post-doctoral fellowship where she specialized in child and adolescent clinical psychology. At UNI, she worked with children, adolescents, and adults hospitalized inpatient as well as in day treatment programs, with a focus on working with adolescents who struggled with mood and behavioral issues. Prior to joining the Arizona Schwartz Group, Dr. Montoya worked as part of the psychology team at the Melmed Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.

• Dr. Montoya will explain all evidence-based treatment options available for each condition, weighing the risks and benefits for all these treatments and help design and formulate a treatment plan together with the patient and family.


• Individual Child Therapy (including Play Therapy and CBT). Treatment will be individualized to the child and family's specific presenting concerns, as well as strengths and challenges.

• When medication is indicated, Dr. Montoya will refer to a top child psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner with expertise in the conditions that your child may present with.


• Dr. Montoya will also assist with any referrals for additional treatments.

Services Provided

Dr. Montoya provides psychological and psychoeducational assessments, individual, family, and group therapy services. Common treatment modalities include: parent training, behavior therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, and social skills training. Common presenting issues include: ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Montoya particularly enjoys the role she gets to play in helping families identify and understand issues, and figure out how they can utilize their strengths to collaborate and address treatment goals in order to improve family functioning.

Comprehensive Assessment

Dr. Montoya specializes in psychological and psychoeducational evaluations, autism evaluations, and personality testing.  Dr. Montoya also has expertise with parenting, behavior modification, cognitive-behavior therapy, and social skills training. Dr. Montoya can also be a valuable asset in helping coordinate services and accommodations at schools.
